Stephen Crane wrote The Red Badge of Courage, one of the most famous war novels ever written and still probably the quintessential Civil War book. He was also a writer of short stories and considered by literary scholars to be one of America’s best. I have selected his story A Desertion as the 5th in our series of 52 adaptations.
