It seems a long time ago that I sat down with a group of actors and read through the screenplay for The Big Something. But it was only last December. We crowded the lobby of Phoenix’s Space 55 and played through what would be Running Wild’s first feature. Gus Edwards and I were there to listen and what we heard sounded good. Some of the cast changed from that point till we shot in June but it was the beginning of something.
Here we are again: a different screenplay and another cast. A screenplay reading is a perfect tool. The movie, an incubated child, is exposed to the elements. Its strengths and weaknesses are revealed, the story laid raw for my eyes and all those involved.
I’m excited to fail, thrilled to succeed, ready to begin again. Tonight I get to hear The Detective’s Lover for the first time.
