Filmbar, Phoenix’s best theater for watching good movies, is showing a terrific double feature this Wednesday, March 14th.
Starting out, they will screen the WWII French resistance thriller Army of Shadows. It was directed by Jean-Pierre Melville, who made some of the coolest crime films of the 20th century (also watch Le Samourai and Les Doulos). His work has been very influential on my own, especially in the masterful way that he handles action and suspense. I recommend Army of Shadows (his best) to any filmmaker and to any audience member for a good cinema experience.
Later that night, Filmbar is screening Modern Times, the second masterpiece by Charlie Chaplin. If you enjoyed The Artist, you will love this film with Chaplin’s Tramp character in a great adventure through the industrial world. It features some classic moments which will give you a belly ache with laughter. Here is a good example:
Filmbar continues to show a great variety of movies and remains the best place to see a movie in Phoenix.
