BAD GIRLS (1994)

Rating: 2 out of 5 Stars

Look, I had to see it eventually. Though I dreaded watching this 90s Western flop, it also satisfied the curiosity I’ve had since glaring at the cover of BAD GIRLS on the Blockbuster shelves when I was a kid.

I thought it might be a fun kind of bad but sadly BAD GIRLS would be better if it was worse. As is, the movie attempts to be a “serious” Western with goofy elements and falls flat on its face. You’d think that the four leading ladies would make it worth watching but though they have all been great in other movies, they’re not here. Andie MacDowell is just plain awful. Drew Barrymore is just Drew Barrymore. Madeleine Stowe and Mary Stuart Masterson are playing in it like they’re in an entirely different picture. The guys don’t help either. Dermot is nothing but a pretty boy face. James Russo overacts his way through the whole movie. And Robert Loggia isn’t on screen long enough to make a difference.

What boggles my mind more than anything is why this big budget Hollywood Western makes some low budget mistakes like not cutting to a shot of a rattlesnake when it spooks the wagon… they couldn’t afford a snake wrangler?
