SHERWOOD ANDERSON’S I WANT TO KNOW WHY

This story was one that really stuck with me in college literature classes (which taught me more about film than film school). Why? I don’t know. But the tale of a man recounting how he lost his innocence as a boy haunted me. This adaptation, which again showed how experimental the early Running Wild work was, is a combination of narration and abstract images at the abandoned trotting park. It was originally intended to feature footage of a horse (who would make his way into another early film, Comanche. We would eventually adapt this story again for our 52 films in 52 week project.
